Powerleague Group was established in December 1999 following the merger of Powerplay Soccer Centres Limited and Anchor International Limited, both 3i Group plc investee companies. In August 2003, Claude Littner led a management buyout of Powerleague Group from 3i Group plc, with the support of the business’s existing bankers, HBOS plc. Since that time, the Group has grown turnover and operating margins each year, whilst investing substantially in its existing sites and opening several new sites each year.

Powerleague gained admission to the Alternative Investment Market in May 2005.
